Hello There! Welcome to my 2nd guide; this time I will teach you how to master the Evil Tree Distraction and Diversion.

[dohtml]<a name="intro"><b>1. Introduction</b></a>[/dohtml]

The Evil Tree is a Distraction and Diversion minigame which involves the Woodcut, Farming and Firemaking skills. It is the basic concept of finding a tree, nurturing it, then killing it for some super awesome Woodcutting experience. Note: You can only do this twice a day. It is members only i'm afraid.

[dohtml]<a name="inventory"><b>2.Inventory</b></a>[/dohtml]

Your inventory should include some or all of the following:

Hatchet- Rune will do, but either Dragon or the Inferno Adze is recommended.

Low weight gear so you can run around finding the strange sapling.

Teleport runes for various teleports. Eg. fast teleports to a patch of trees for the reward. (read on for that).

[dohtml]<a name="scouting"><b>3. Scouting for a tree</b></a>[/dohtml]

Generally this involves 'asking' a spirit tree about the Evil Tree, and it will tell you approximatly how long away, some examples of what it may say is:

'The taint of the evil tree is no longer on the land. There wont be another one for over an hour.'

At this information, you might want to hop to find another tree, or simply wait and ask in an hour.

N.B. The quest 'Tree Gnome Village' is required to talk to the spirit trees.

[dohtml]<a name="anima"><b>4. Anima Mundi / Strange Sapling</b></a>[/dohtml]

This is when the 'Strange Sapling' has sprouted in a specific location. The spirit tree will tell you a riddle on where it is. Generally you can pinpoint where it will be from the riddle, like:

'As the crow flies north from the market in Ardounge.' (this tree is either south of the range guild, or in the middle of the wood, West of Seer's Village.

[dohtml]<a name="nurture"><b>5. Nurture Stage</b></a>[/dohtml]

When you locate the Strange Sapling, you can nurture it to make it grow. The following table shows you the experience you will receive as you nurture the Evil Tree.

<img src='http://img9.imageshack.us/img9/426/nurture.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

[dohtml]<table align="center" width="400" border="1"><tr bgcolor="#4444ff"><td align="center">Tree</td><td align="center">XP</td></tr><tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td><font color="#660000">Normal</font>

</td><td align="right">

<font color="#660000">20</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td><font color="#660000">Oak</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">45</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td><font color="#660000">Willow</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">66</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td><font color="#660000">Maple</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">121</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td><font color="#660000">Yew</font>

</td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">172.5</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td><font color="#660000">Magic</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">311</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td><font color="#660000">Elder</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">687.5</font></td></tr></table>[/dohtml]

You can figure out what type of tree it is from the Farming experience you receive.

[dohtml]<a name="The Evil Tree"><b>6.The Evil Tree</b></a>[/dohtml]

After the Strange Sapling has fully grown the Evil Tree will emerge, along with four roots- each positioned so you cannot cut the tree while all are standing. Thus, you need to cut them down!

<img src='http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/5498/evilroot.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Once the root is down, you will receive one 'Evil Tree Kindling' This is used to burn the tree, eventually making a circle around the tree. Eight Evil Tree kindling are needed to complete the circle. Also note the kindling can be stored in your bank afterwards, so it is wise to hold onto excess after the tree has been cut down to make it much easier for the next one.

<img src='http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/9237/ringoffire.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Experience recieved from burning the tree:

[dohtml]<table align="center" width="400" border="1"><tr bgcolor="#4444ff"><td align="center">Tree</td><td align="center">XP</td></tr><tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td>

<font color="#660000">Normal</font></td><td align="right">

<font color="#660000">200</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td><font color="#660000">Oak</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">300</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td><font color="#660000">Willow</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">450</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td><font color="#660000">Maple</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">675</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td><font color="#660000">Yew</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">1,112.5</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td><font color="#660000">Magic</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">1,517.5</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td><font color="#660000">Elder</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">2,000.5</font></td></tr></table>[/dohtml]

Once the tree has a 'ring of fire' around it, it's time to concentrate on the tree:

<img src='http://img11.imageshack.us/img11/8904/choptree.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

However, you must note that the evil roots *will* respawn after exactly one minute after it has been cut, so I use my vista clock to time it.

<img src='http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/6310/vistaclock.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

Woodcutting Experience from cutting the trees and roots:

[dohtml]<table align="center" width="400" border="1"><tr bgcolor="#4444ff"><td align="center">Tree</td><td align="center">XP</td></tr><tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td><font color="#660000">Normal</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">3</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td><font color="#660000">Oak</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">6.5</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td><font color="#660000">Willow</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">9</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td><font color="#660000">Maple</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">11</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td><font color="#660000">Yew</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">12.5</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td><font color="#660000">Magic</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">15</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td><font color="#660000">Elder</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">17</font></td></tr></table>[/dohtml]

[dohtml]<a name="Rewards"><b>7. Rewards</b></a>[/dohtml]

At any point during cutting the tree, you can 'inspect' the tree to find out your current reward percentage:

<img src='http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/662/inspect.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

The tree's maximum health is 100% and it dies once it hits 0%. However, there is an exception; if the tree's health is at 0% and under 3 people have 100% reward, the tree will remain until at least 3 people have 100% reward.

<img src='http://img142.imageshack.us/img142/3495/rewards.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

In addition to these rewards, you are awarded 'Magical log banking' which allows you to constantly cut a tree, even when your inventory is full. The magical ability also allows the trees to be more 'durable' meaning you can cut more logs per tree.

It is advised to cut willow trees, I go to the legends guild, just by the coast, with plenty or willow trees, very quiet place. There are plenty of other places, but the majority go to Draynor but you might have to fight for a tree at draynor, and the durability will be lost while cutting with normal lumberjacks. Its a personal choice. Also a strung rabbits foot is recommended for more nests, which give a variety of seeds, eggs and rings.

Here is a table which shows the maximum amount of time given (100% reward required for the maximum time) You get an amount of this time if you do not manage 100% rewards.

[dohtml]<table align="center" width="400" border="1"><tr bgcolor="#5555ff"><td align="center">Tree</td><td align="center">Time</td></tr><tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td><font color="#660000">Normal</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">6 minutes</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td><font color="#660000">Oak</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">10 minutes</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td><font color="#660000">Willow</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">14 minutes</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td><font color="#660000">Maple</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">18 minutes</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td><font color="#660000">Yew</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">22 minutes</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td><font color="#660000">Magic</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">26 minutes</font></td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td><font color="#660000">Elder</font></td><td align="right"><font color="#660000">30 minutes</font></td></tr></table>[/dohtml]

<img src='http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/5728/lepmagic.jpg' border='0' alt='user posted image' />

In addition to the above rewards, you will receive a random combination of:

1.Noted logs from the respective tree. Elder tree gives either Magic, Yew, Mahogany or Teak logs

2. Coins

3. Tree seeds and Fruit Tree seeds

4. Key Halfs

5. Level 1 Clues.

[dohtml]<a name="Notes"><b>8. Notes</b></a>[/dohtml]

-> When you have 100% reward, it is considerate to others to only cut evil tree kindling, but if you want experience, do continue cutting!

-> If you find an evil tree, do say in 'm a s o r s' clan chat for others to come along and enjoy cutting the tree.

-> Actively hunting Evil Trees is great experience for Woodcutting, I personally did plenty of Evil Trees on my way to 99 Woodcutting.

Sweet guide dude. One thing that I would like to see (well, a few) is the guide to be better formatted (things like the title be bold to be able to browse through it quickly), and the clues associated with all possible location of evil trees. I'll also write a little javascript (or some other language) timer or something that you can use in your url bar (or someplace convenient and for all OS) to time the evil tree root .

Edit: You also forgot to mention that the leprechaun magic will also make the tree more durable/less likely to fall, which is a good thing since you don't have to switch to so many trees or wait for the tree to respawn. The leprechaun will tell you this so posting a cropped screenshot of that or quoting him will be fine.

Edit: Under Inventory, you made a several typos.

2. Inventory.

Your inventory should include some of the following:

Hatchet- Rune will do, but either Dragon or INferno Adze is reccomended

Low weight gear so you can run around finding the strange sapling

Teleport runes for various teleports.

Well, I am sure there is more, but I am gonna sleep. I'll check back on this tomorrow.

Edit: You should also tell the quest requirement to talking to spirit trees and their locations so lower level players can make some goals. happy.gif

Edit: Another typo.

Once the root is down, you will recieve some 'Evil Tree Kindling' This is used to burn the tree, effectivly making a circle around the tree:

Hehe, getting some quick fix done right now. wink.gif Remember that `i' before `e' except after `c'. I think I learned that one from 50 first date or something lame. happy.gif

Edit: Testing...

[dohtml]<table align="center" width="400" border="1"><tr bgcolor="#5555ff"><td align="center">Tree</td><td align="center">XP</td></tr><tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td>Normal</td><td align="right">20</td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td>Magic</td><td align="right">311</td></tr>
<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td>Elder</td><td align="right">687.5</td></tr></table>[/dohtml]

Edit: Adjust the size and coloring to whatever. That should make it easier to read the xp info you provide.

Edit: One more thing!!! Since this guide might serve better as a reference for some, it might be nice to include links in your guide to different parts of the guide for quick reference. Example.

life saver! amazing, i have no idea how to do them, but ive done most of them, only thing i may need is to know how to change the colour of the text in the tables, as i dont want to mess around with the code too much.

need to still ad lep message, working on that, but not playing for a bit, so ill put it in when i get the chance.

thanks aprz

Need 8 tinder to make a ring of fire.

Tinder is tinder so you can save it from tree to tree. Some people will use this to stockpile tinder on lower trees so they can make a fast fire ring on harder trees and focus on cutting the tree and not the roots(more xp I guess).

I am told lumberjack gear does effect xp, but I can't confirm it.

Well, just to show you as an example, you can change the color in the table like this:

[dohtml]<p><table align="right" width="400" border="1"><tr bgcolor="#5555ff"><td align="center">Tree</td><td align="center">XP</td></tr><tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td>Normal</td><td align="right">20</td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td><font color="#ff0000">Oak</font></td><td align="right">45</td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td>Willow</td><td align="right">66</td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td>Maple</td><td align="right">121</td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td>Yew</td><td align="right">172.5</td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td>Magic</td><td align="right">311</td></tr>

<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td>Elder</td><td align="right">687.5</td></tr></table></p>[/dohtml]

[dohtml]<p><table align="right" width="400" border="1"><tr bgcolor="#5555ff"><td align="center">Tree</td><td align="center">XP</td></tr><tr  bgcolor="#ffffff"><td>Normal</td><td align="right">20</td></tr>
<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td><font color="#ff0000">Oak</font></td><td align="right">45</td></tr>
<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td>Willow</td><td align="right">66</td></tr>
<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td>Maple</td><td align="right">121</td></tr>
<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td>Yew</td><td align="right">172.5</td></tr>
<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td>Magic</td><td align="right">311</td></tr>
<tr bgcolor="#ffffff"><td>Elder</td><td align="right">687.5</td></tr></table></p>[/dohtml]

Notice also that you can change whether the table is aligned left, center, or right. You can change it's size, which is in pixels, or it can even be in screen size (put percentage like <table width="20%"> like that). For color also, it can be "red", "blue", "green", "gray", "white", "black", etc... but I prefer to use RGB (red green blue). That's the #ffffff part.

[dohtml]#<font color="#ff0000">ff</font><font color="#00ff00">ff</font><font color="#0000ff">ff</font>[/dohtml]

[dohtml]#<font color="#ff0000">ff</font><font color="#00ff00">ff</font><font color="#0000ff">ff</font>[/dohtml]

Get it? Red (first two digits), Green (middle two digits), Blue (last two digits).

As you can see, it ranges from 0-f (0, 1, 2, 3, ..., a, b, c, d, e, f) where f is all of that color and 0 is none of the that color. Take a look at this if you need help finding a color.

Heh, didn't Josh ever write a guide on HTML in here? You could make your guide very pretty and easy to read using HTML, which isn't too hard to learn. Very valuable to know even if you don't intend on becoming some techy since the Internet and computers are so important to businesses today. Do note that the method I am using though to color your text, move things around, etc... is deprecated (it still works though) and has been replaced by CSS, which is a much more lovely way to do it. I think HTML is much easier on the fly anyhow and CSS support I think is limited on here for how it's intended to be used.

Edit: Interesting, he mentioned some bbcode and dohtml, but not some html shortcuts that I think would be useful. I probably should do that...

Edit: I'll quickly show you table tags though, a very simplied version of it.

[dohtml]<table><tr><td><img src="http://img17.imageshack.us/img17/5498/evilroot.jpg"></td><td>This text will appear to the right of the image. Nice, huh? Okay, maybe it needs a little more text than this or it just seems off. -.-</td></tr></table>[/dohtml]

So you can use tables for now to make your guide more condense and not have so much blank space next to your text. I simply remember it as <tr> is for a new row, and <td> is for a new columns. Don't forget to close your tags.

Don't be afraid to try stuff and see what happens. You can always recopy the old stuff from my post. tongue.gif

I learned it from a Jeffery Archer book tongue.gif

Anyway, Sweet guide, anyways, useless information you can add is, DO WILLOWS for fast exp when you get the log banking ability or teaks X.gif

More useless information, willows are 1.2k xp/min at 96 wc with auto banking ability if you wish to add it tongue.gif

I agree, recommend that they cut willow trees directly afterwards to make the most out of the leprechaun magic. It's a good idea to wear an amulet of glory or carry a camelot teleport to teleport to willow trees quickly.

is there any way for getting those tables next to the pictures? i had a go, but it wacked everything off. and done most of what people have recommended, will tackle to colour soon, that seems like a big job. im only just learning all these codes nd stuff, its rly hard for me to wrap my mind around it.

Thats because your a muppet wub.gif

helpful words from john, as always. tongue.gif

basically what you need to do (explained by aprz using super techy knowledge) is create a font color for your table rows.

what aprz told you was that "#000000" corresponds to 3 bytes of color code, broken down into 1 byte per color (red green and blue)

but all you need to know is this:

go here for a color code easy pallet

find the colors u want

insert the following after every <td> :

<font color="#xxxxxx">

this will precede the stuff you want to show up in color on ur table. (note, xxxxxx is your color code, change this to what you want)

also! make sure that you put </font> AFTER the text you want to be in color.

here's the example given by aprz, to reiterate:

<tr bgcolor="#cccccc"><td><font color="#ff0000">Oak</font></td><td align="right">45</td></tr>

and if you need any more html help, ask aprz, not me laugh.gif

Can someone explain to me the issue with the tables?

The tables take a lot of space I think so he probably wants to put them side by side with the picture. The he wants to change the color background of each row/column to make it more color coordinated probably.

Most hackish, but simplest way to put the table next to the picture is

<table><tr><td><img src="..."></td><td><put table code here></table>[code]

Just a table within a table. Very hackish, but simple. wink.gif We aren't gonna start judging eachothers HTML, right? XD

cutting teak logs over willows will garner more exp, not to mention it is quite profitable, as you can gain hundreds of them in very little time. If you world hop and dispatch evil tree's, you can make 60k exp an hour while still making about 110k gp, which is better exp than willows and far more money.

It's not a lot of cash, but it is if you do it frequently enough.

I don't think the magic is available for teak trees I'm afraid?
